GaryGary J Palin, President & CEO

Gary has over 30 years management experience within the global aviation industry. He is a former CEO of two scheduled regional airlines including their respective total aircraft maintenance and ground handling operations. Gary has also held commercial and operational responsibility for licensed air operators in Europe, Africa and the Middle-East and has been retained on many wide-ranging airline consulting projects. With the UK's Air 2000 and its successor First Choice Airways he directed Airbus and Boeing fleet aircraft acquisitions and aircraft/engine leasing, notably leading the airline’s negotiating team for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and GEnx engine as launch customer.

Selling his first Learjet in 1983 and buying his first Boeing in 1986, Gary has personally structured and overseen well over 150 aircraft transactions to date. Consulting projects include agencies of the EU and World Bank, major corporates British Aerospace and Shell, leading global management consultants, airlines, aircraft manufacturers, MROs and airports. In VIP and corporate aviation, Gary has established and managed private and fleet operators in Europe, the Americas and elsewhere on behalf of several owners.

Gary is a Senior Associate at Nyras Capital LLP and a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT).

 

Colin Bailey, Vice-President

Colin is a former Chairman of the Baltic Air Charter Association (BACA) at London’s historic and highly regarded Baltic Exchange and has been a leading figure in international aviation for over 30 years. Worldwide, Colin has been responsible for successfully organising many hundreds of unique flight programmes for VIP, government and corporate missions, and a substantial number of aircraft charter, lease and acquisition programmes.

Since 1986, Colin has worked with the team on numerous aircraft transactions, ACMI airliner leases and industry consulting projects - including corporate aircraft evaluations, fight department and fractional operator reviews. Colin has provided aircraft operations and advisory services to the British Government, United Nations, airlines worldwide and many 'blue-chip' organisations.

 

Erwin KaltenbrunnerErwin Kaltenbrunner, Vice-President

Erwin is an industry professional with over 35 years experience at Swiss national carrier Swissair. Responsibilities at the airline included, as Vice President, variously the airline's cargo division, IATA relations, licensing and bilateral issues, and legal aspects of airline alliance agreements.

Based in Zurich, Erwin serves widely as an international airline and airport infrastructure project consultant having led and completed a number of major industry projects in several countries since leaving Swissair.

 

Nick Berryman, Senior Adviser (Flight Operations & Training)

A former Royal Air Force fast jet pilot, instructor and staff officer, retiring as a Squadron Leader after 27 years service. Nick has since enjoyed a commercial career as an airline pilot and Captain with long-established UK carrier Monarch Airlines and more recently with CAE as a Simulator Instructor and active corporate pilot on the Bombardier Global Express.

Holding EASA and FAA Airline Transport licences, Nick has some 12,000 hours flying experience with around 7,700 on the Airbus A310 and A300-600 types engaged in worldwide operations.

Nick is a founding director of industry flight department auditor Air Safety Auditing, engaged as a Senior Auditor and as Head of Flight Standards (Aeroplanes).

 

Michael Butt, Senior Adviser (Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering, Quality)

Commencing his 40-year aviation career with aircraft manufacturer Hawker Siddeley Aviation and with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mike is an EASA-licensed engineer qualified and experienced on numerous modern large airline types, including the Airbus A300, A320 and A330/340 families, and Boeing 747, 757, 767 and 777, together with their related powerplants. Mike holds or has also held licenses issued by the UAE DGCA, Hong Kong CAD and Malaysia DCA.

Mike has served several major airlines in the role of Quality & Safety Manager, Quality Manager, Quality Consultant, Airworthiness Surveyor, and also as Chief Inspector for an FAA Part 145 Repair Station, having been engaged in engineering and maintenance quality and safety management for over 25 years. He is a trained IOSA Maintenance & Engineering Auditor.

 

Alan Dana, Senior Adviser (Flight Operations)

Holding current UK CAA and US FAA Airline Transport Pilots Licences, Alan is rated as Captain on Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family aircraft and other types with over 12,000 flying hours experience. Alan has served as Captain at GB Airways on the Airbus A320 and A321 operating under British Airways franchise throughout Europe and North Africa, and Qantas subsidiary JetStar throughout South East Asia.

Alan was previously with Debonair Airways where he flew the BAe 146 regional jet on ACMI contracts for Air France, Lufthansa and Swissair. This follows an early career, ultimately as Chief Pilot and Training Captain, flying Beech 1900s with Caribbean regional operator SkyKing.

 

Allan Dollie, Senior Adviser (Aircraft Engineering)

Allan commenced his career more than 40 years ago as a BOAC (now British Airways) Engineering Apprentice. He has held senior positions in line and heavy maintenance on all BA fleet types, also serving as Vice-President Technical for airline at Boeing in Seattle and ultimately Engineering Manager Concorde.

He was later Chief Engineer at both Air Malta and Northwest Airlines (USA). Subsequently, Allan was appointed Managing Director GAMCO, a major MRO in Abu Dhabi, where he oversaw all engineering and maintenance activity on GulfAir's Airbus and Boeing fleets in addition to all heavy engineering on the UK Royal Air Force TriStar fleet. He has since been engaged by Government agencies and airlines on wide-ranging projects, and, most recently, led the development and implementation of civil maintenance and support codes - Parts 145, 147. 66 and EU Ops 1 - for application on state aircraft, UK MOD MAOS, and commonwealth of Australia MAO.

Allan is a UK Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Freeman of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators.

 

Robin GibbsRobin Gibbs, Senior Adviser (Airline Commercial)

The basis of Robin’s ‘thirty five plus’ years of valuable, hands-on commercial aviation experience was established while working with airlines that included Dan-Air, Caledonian and British Airways. Since those days Robin has held a variety of senior management posts with operators in Britain and overseas, often in ‘inhospitable and sensitive’ locations.

Robin’s experience of scheduled and charter airline markets covers a wide spectrum from regional turbo-prop services to long haul 747 passenger and all-cargo operations. Diverse management responsibilities have included: flight operations; aircraft engineering and logistics support; aircraft leasing and insurance; international airline licencing and aircraft certification compliance; IATA and ICAO standards and liaison, airline commercial and fleet planning and airline business strategy.

For the past twelve years an independent Air Transport Management Advisor, Robin has successfully lead airline start-ups for investors, guided airline shareholders in the management of business recovery programmes and produced strategic air transport related solutions for the UK MoD.

Robin has held a UK Private Pilots Licence for over 25 years and is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

 

Andrew Jones, Senior Adviser (Operator Compliance & Regulatory Matters)

Andrew has been involved with aircraft operations for over 35 years. In that time he has held a variety of senior management posts for aircraft operators in the executive, cargo and scheduled service fields, including as Operations Manager and Postholder for a number of UK regional airlines.

A specialist in quality management, compliance and regulatory matters, Andrew is an expert in drafting operations manuals and written procedures regularly supporting both start-up airlines and the introduction of new aircraft types by established carriers. He is an ISO 9000 auditor.

 

Roger K Murphy, Senior Adviser (Airline Operations)

Roger has over 30 years management experience in airline ground and flight operations in Europe, the Americas and in Africa, and is a former CEO at Air Gambia and Operations Manager of UK-based airline Air Ops.

As airline Country and Station Manager, Roger has established on-line stations for carriers including British Airways, Delta Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Transwede Airways, US Airways and others. Roger has extensive experience of airline ground operations and in establishing and developing new scheduled services including all aspects of marketing, reservations, pricing, interline and related staff training, and terminal management.

 

Brian R Teeder, Senior Adviser (Flight Safety & Helicopter Operations)

Brian brings 40 years experience in aviation as a pilot, commercial helicopter flying instructor, helicopter training captain & examiner, professional aviation manager and technical auditor. He holds a current Airline Transport Pilots Licence (Helicopter).

With oil company Shell for over 20 years, Brian has been engaged in the management of onshore and offshore heavylift helicopter operations across the globe - ultimately serving as Senior Aviation Adviser responsible for development and assurance of Group aviation standards and the conduct of over 200 operator technical audits across more than 40 countries.

Brian is a founding director at industry flight department auditor Air Safety Auditing, engaged as Chief Auditor and Head of Flight Standards (Helicopter).

 

Michael Underwood, Senior Adviser (Contracts & Purchasing)

Educated in air transport engineering and business administration, Mike has been engaged in airline contracting for over 30 years, much of this at British Airways.

At BA, Mike was Commercial Manager Air Trading, responsible for the sale, lease and refurbishing of the airline’s fleet, later Purchasing Manager Handling Agreements, General Manager Service Contracts, General Manager Aircraft & Maintenance Purchasing and finally Head of Risk Management.

Mike is an expert in contracts, tendering and purchasing processes, also engaged in wider industry purchasing policy and process audits for a number of leading consultancies.
